| We believe that we can look everywhere and see the essence of One Infinite Presence - in nature and in each other. Some might call it God, while others may call it Spirit, Infinite Intelligence, Omnipresent Being, the Intuitive Self, the Atman, the One, Divine or Universal Mind, Life Force, or any other of a hundred names. If one were to look at the ocean as symbolic of this One Presence, each of us might represent a tiny droplet of the essence of the expanse called "Ocean". How each of us expresses that droplet, that essence of the Infinite within us, is the opportunity we each have as members of humankind. Will we use that essence to live a fully expressed, meaningful life?
We believe that we are each responsible for what we create and experience in life. We know that being accountable and responsible for the choices we make, rather than holding someone else or some condition responsible, is a cornerstone for building a life worth living. There have been many examples of people who have transcended what appear to have been insurmountable obstacles to living a meaningful life such as Stephen Hawking and Christopher Reeves.
We believe that our thoughts, feelings and deepest beliefs manifest as our experience. As the master teacher said, "It is done unto you as you believe". Science of Mind is the study of mental science, the application and practice of spirituality in our daily lives to create a life worth living. The Law of Attraction is always working to fulfill our beliefs. If you believe that life is just to be endured, the experiences that you draw into your life will confirm that expectation.
Through the committed application of the Science of Mind teaching, one learns that they have the ability to take control of their own destiny by creating a new level of consciousness (belief system). One's consciousness can be defined as the sum total of everything one has thought, been taught or believed to be the truth about himself and the world from the moment they were born until this moment in time. Many of us were given some negative ideas about ourselves, (dumb, fat, ugly, not enough, etc.) or our life condition (poor, uneducated, unworthy, etc.) in our formative years. Often, these ideas (sometimes unknowingly) were brought with us into adulthood where they operate on a regular basis, both consciously and unconsciously, having a profound impact on how we experience life and the world around us.
As we learn to change our consciousness (belief system), our lives begin to reflect that change in our daily experience. Changing one's beliefs is not easy, but it is possible. This is why accountability and self-responsibility are so vital. We believe we are spiritual beings having a human experience. We believe each person is here, not just to exist, but also to fulfill a purpose by being all that they can be, as Spirit, Mind and Body.
We believe we are here to give form and expression to Infinite Presence. We believe that every human being has the spark of the divine within and when we are consciously aware of this Presence we are naturally led to treat others and ourselves with reverence, loving kindness, compassion and respect. In so doing, we automatically make a difference-we leave our world a better place than when we found it. We believe that "everyday people" can accomplish this in everyday life. One need not be a scientist discovering a new cure or a brain surgeon saving lives in order to make a profound difference in our world. It can be as simple as holding a door open for someone, being aware enough to say a kind and loving word at the appropriate time, serving your local community in a volunteer capacity, or in any other capacity that brings joy and peace to others.
We refer to the action of making a difference as Selfless Service, or SEVA, a word that comes from the ancient spiritual language Sanskrit. How we choose to make a positive difference as individuals and as a spiritual community then becomes our SEVA, purpose and mission in life. One of the unexpected blessings of performing SEVA is in the knowing we are all interconnected as One in Spirit. When we give to or serve others….we are also giving to and serving ourselves.
We believe there is no single right religion. Every religion provides a pathway to the Infinite for those who practice its teachings and follow its covenants. All paths lead to the top of the same mountain; each religion is rather like a separate and unique pathway to that mountaintop. Our teaching honors all pathways that bring people closer to a one-to-one relationship with the Source of their being.
Science of Mind offers more of a spiritual journey than a religious journey. While each religion has its own opinions, dogma and rituals, spirituality is the silver thread common to all beliefs and all people. Spirituality is a mindfulness practice of recognizing the presence of the One in all people and all things. Easy to say; not always easy to do.
Through the Science of Mind teaching, we endeavor to find our commonality with every human being through the practice of spirituality and unity with one another. This is what the seeker will find at the core of what we teach, practice and believe. |
